Landesign was proud to partner with the City of Vancouver on the Canyon Creek Daylighting Project—an ambitious environmental restoration initiative five years in the making. This transformative project focused on revitalizing a previously buried waterway at Spanish Banks by replacing an aging culvert with an open-air stream channel.
Our team held back tidal waters while temporarily re-directing Canyon Creek during the full-scale excavation of over 3000 m3 to unveil and shape a naturalized creek bed, carefully designed to restore ecological function and enhance habitat for native species. The new river system was engineered to expand over time, supporting increased biodiversity and improving the health of the surrounding watershed.
This project reflects Landesign’s commitment to sustainable landscape construction and ecological stewardship, contributing to long-term environmental resilience in one of Vancouver’s most cherished coastal areas.
